On this night we pay tribute to our brave soldiers in the U.S. military with a rare public showing of one of the first-ever extremely realistic films made about 20th century U.S. combat.
MEN IN WAR details the ugly reality of trench warfare in the Korean War.
Based on a true story, the film generated a great deal of anger when first released, as the Pentagon was furious that it depicted U.S. soldiers in combat conditions falling into chaos and lacking rigid discipline – something that was rarely if ever shown onscreen up to that point, out of Hollywood’s deference to the military.
The Plot: after a small band of soldiers are isolated in enemy-held territory, they must attempt to make it to the top of a nearby hill where they hope that their own division is waiting for them.
However, such an attempt is almost certainly a suicidal act.
A gripping, tough, B&W film starring ALDO RAY, ROBERT RYAN and a young VIC MORROW, MEN IN WAR pulls absolutely no punches about the ugliness and personal risk of trench warfare.
It should be required viewing for those who may unfortunately take our military and their often fearless deeds for granted.
Don’t miss this HONESTLY TERRIFIC film that has languished for far too long in relative obscurity.
