he next scheduled FIRST FRIDAY for Folk Music will be held at Stewart Hall, First Presbyterian Church on 520 Washington Avenue, Savannah GA on 8th January 2016 Festivities start at 7.30pm and run till about 10:00 pm. It is a smoke free, alcohol free and family friendly evening of music in a coffee house setting, regularly attended by an appreciative audience of folk music enthusiasts from the greater Savannah and surrounding area. There is a suggested minimum donation of $ 5/- to help support the event and other SFMS activities. Coffee, baked goods and soft drinks are available at nominal cost for purchase. Since New Year’s Day 2016 is actually the First Friday in January, we have scheduled the concert to take place on the 8th of January 2016
This month’s show will feature two acts “ROLL ON RODNEY” and “JEFFERSON ROSS”. Your host for the evening will be CHRIS DESA
ROLL ON RODNEY
Roll On Rodney is local Savannah group of like-minded, talented musicians and SFMS Society Members, John Powers, Zach Powers, Mary Jo Adams and Rob Roberts, who have performed at First Friday several times over the years. John is a versatile singer /songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, playing guitar, mandolin and bass is accompanied by son Zach who is a phenomenal saxophone player and sometimes adds a key board too. Rob Roberts is an accomplished lead guitar player and sings. Mary Jo Adams plays rhythm guitar and is also the lead vocalist. Their repertoire is wide ranging and comprises of original tunes, folk favorites, blue grass and of course some really funny songs too.
JEFFERSON ROSS
Southern folk artist, Jefferson Ross, makes his debut at First Friday and is a songwriter, singer, guitar slinger and painter weaving stories for the ears and the eyes. Based in The Peach State, Jefferson travels throughout the U.S. and Europe performing his original music and displays his art at festivals and galleries across the South.
For years, Jefferson lived in Nashville playing for a number recording artists including, Canada’s Entertainer of the Decade, Terri Clark, and sharing the stage with Country Music greats such as George Strait, Toby Keith, Reba and Vince Gill. He worked as a staff writer for a number of publishers on Music Row including Curb Music, one of the top music publishers in the world. In 2010 he returned to live in Georgia with his wife and daughter and maintains a home and office in Nashville as well.
