Tybee Post Theatre Grand Re-Opening 1930s Film Festival: King Kong

  • Tybee Post Theatre 10 Van Horne Avenue Tybee Island, GA, 31328 United States (map)

Lights! Camera! Action! It’s Back to the Movies on Tybee!

We were born as a 1930’s movie house for Fort Screven, and we want to salute our heritage as we take you back in time for a three-day film festival of the most popular classics of the decade. What better way to reopen our movie house than with the first films our soldiers watched with their wives, girlfriends and children in their own Fort Screven Theater. And as a salute to our community of supporters, tickets for this special screening are only $1 a movie!

Put on your 1930s glam for Opening Night Friday, March 4, and our exclusive screening of King Kong, which premiered in 1933 starring Fay Wray. Rotten Tomatoes ranks it as the “Greatest horror film of all time!”  Saturday afternoon, you’ll see 1939’s The Wizard of Oz on the big screen, perhaps for the first time ever! Saturday evening, what could be more timely than Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, the 1939 political story that made Jimmy Stewart a star. On Sunday afternoon, you’ll want to bring the kids to see the first ever full-length animated film, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the 1937 musical fantasy from Walt Disney. Finally, we wrap up the weekend with. of course, that 1939 epic historical romance, Gone With the Wind.

It’s been five decades since we’ve had movies at the Tybee Post Theater! Don’t miss this grand reopening weekend, March 4-6.
