The Psychotronic Film Society pays special tribute to summertime in Savannah with a Mystery Screening of an obscure but highly entertaining “Giant Monster Movie” that will be of special interest to anyone living in the Coastal Empire or Lowcountry. What campy gem will that award-winning organization present? The exact title of this mid-’90s low-budget flick will remain a secret until showtime, but it can be said that it’s an homage to old-fashioned mutant monster movies of the 1950s and 1960s that revels in sci-fi and horror film clichés and boasts goofy special effects and witty, self-aware dialogue.
Plus, one of the film’s supporting actors is a bona fide member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Did that hint help? How about this: the heroes are battling giant insects. What kind of insects? Well, let’s just say they hold a special place in the hearts of folks right here in Savannah ... Come prepared to laugh. Showtime is 8 p.m., with $6 admission and specials on craft beer and organic wine.
