Acoustic Tuesday: Live music by Resonant Rogues

  • Foxy Loxy Cafe 1919 Bull Street Savannah, GA, 31401 United States (map)

The Resonant Rogues is the lovechild of partners Sparrow and Keith Smith.   The pair met in Asheville in the Autumn of 2012, and their instant spark lit a blaze that could not be contained.   After a short incubation period in which Keith moved back to New Orleans and Sparrow visited constantly, they decided to settle in Asheville (where Sparrow already lived with her son, Kale) and start a real band- and the Resonant Rogues was born.   The first year included tours that spanned the US, playing all across the North East and out to the West Coast, recording their first EP at Jenke arts in Burlington Vermont and second EP in Port Townsend Washington, which were combined to make the Coast to Coast Double EP.   The second year involved some transition and settling in- the original bass player, Ben Fox, and fiddle player, Walter Prettyman, lived in New Orleans, while Keith and Sparrow were committed to making Asheville their home.   Swing Set, the jazz EP, and Go East Young Band, the Balkan EP, were recorded in New Orleans at Word of Mouth Studio right before this lineup parted ways. Craig Sandberg, upright bassist, moved to Asheville in the summer of 2014 from Minneapolis, and the Resonant Rogues scooped him up nearly immediately.  Drayton Aldridge joined on the fiddle a few months later, and completed the quartet once again.   The new lineup continued to tour extensively as well as playing most of the major venues in western North Carolina.

With two years of bandhood under their belts, the Rogues set their sights on Echo Mountain- Asheville’s premier recording studio.   They ran a successful Kickstarter campaign to raise the necessary funds to record a full length, professional, all-original album and send it to print.   With their shiny new release in hand, Keith and Sparrow set out to spread their songs around the world.   After a whirlwind full band tour of eastern US and Canada, the pair set out on a two month long adventure tour of Europe, trekking from Istanbul to Ireland with many stops in between, playing 30 shows and busking in 12 cities across seven countries.  Returning home to their beloved Asheville, the band looks forward to sticking around the south for a while before heading to the west coast in November.
