Juneteenth Family Day June 10, 2017 from 1-4 pm
Juneteenth is the oldest commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States. The Jepson Center for the Arts will host its 11th Annual celebration of Juneteenth with a Juneteenth lecture recounting the story of the Rev. Georgia Lisle by Jamaica-based lawyer and scholar Miguel A. Lorne. He will tell the story that connects Savannah to Jamaica at 6 pm on June 8th. Admission is free and open to the public.
The celebration continues on Saturday June 10th with Juneteenth Family Day from 1 to 4 pm. The history of Juneteenth and freedom will be brought to life through cultural history dramatizations by Dr. Amir Jamal Toure and Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation.
Artists demonstrations and hands-on activities will take place in the museum studios. Admission is free and open to the public.
