Cinema Savannah presents: Styx (Germany, 2019)

  • Savannah Cultural Arts Center 201 Montgomery Street Savannah, GA, 31401 United States (map)

Styx , which opened Berlinale's Panorama Special section, is a work of unrelenting intensity and technical brilliance. Aptly named after the mythological river that separates the living from the dead, Styx is an astute modern-day parable of Western indifference in the face of marginalized suffering. One woman's long-held dream of sailing from Gibraltar to the small island of Ascension in the Atlantic comes to a halt when she sees a disabled overloaded boat full of refugees.
Carrying practically the entire film, Susanne Wolff is riveting as a woman pushed to her physical, psychological and moral limits. Triple winner of the Berlin International Film Festival and nine other festivals. Stunning cinematography you have got to see on the big screen. 94 minutes. In English and some German, with English subtitles.

Tickets are $10, cash preferred
