Celebrate National Silent Movie Day with a special centennial screening of Harold Lloyd's eternal comedic masterpiece Safety Last! featuring live musical accompaniment by organist Ron Carter on the Lucas' original Mighty Wurlitzer. In this filmmaking feat that has astonished audiences for a century, Lloyd plays a small-town guy trying to make his way in the big city. Needing to raise some cash in order to marry his sweetheart, he concocts a wild "human fly" publicity stunt resulting in an act of death-defying derring-do that lives among film's most iconic moments. Hilarious and jaw-dropping in equal measure, to experience the film with an audience as it moves between uproarious laughter and awestruck gasps is, as film critic and scholar David Shipman put it, "one of the greatest experiences of cinema."
Tickets for the screening, part of the Wonders of the Wurlitzer series, are free for SCAD card holders; $10 for students, seniors, and military; $15 for the general public.
