48hr Film Project Screenings 2024

  • Tybee Post Theater 10 Van Horne Avenue Tybee Island, GA, 31328 United States (map)

What happens when filmmakers have 48 hours to write, cast, shoot, and edit a short film? Well....find out for yourself! For the first time ever, the Tybee Post Theater will host The 48 Hour Film Project screenings. After 48 hours of filming, participants in this national competition will have a chance to screen their short films on the big screen. Winners in different categories will be announced on Sunday.

The 48 Hour Film Project is a worldwide film competition where teams of filmmakers create a short film in 48 hours. The competition has been active since 2001 and takes place in over 100 cities.

Friday, October 4 at 8pm • Group A Screenings
Saturday, October 5 at 8pm • Group B Screenings
Sunday, October 6 at 3pm • Best Of Screening & Awards Ceremony (5:30pm)

Here's how the competition works:
Kickoff: Teams are assigned a genre, character, prop, and line of dialogue at a kickoff event.
Writing, shooting, and editing: Teams write, shoot, edit, and score their film within the 48-hour window.
Screenings: All films are screened, including late submissions.
Awards: Local judges announce the winning films, which are awarded in categories such as Best Acting, Best Directing, and Best Film.
Filmapalooza: The winners from each city are screened at Filmapalooza, a festival hosted by a different city each year.
Some say the 48 Hour Film Project is a must-have experience for aspiring filmmakers. It can help filmmakers learn more in a weekend than they might in a year of film school.
