What a rich literary scene Savannah has! A portion of beautiful Lafayette Square will be dedicated to the annual Savannah Local Author Day, sponsored by The Book Lady Bookstore. Local and regional authors will be on hand and you are invited to stroll around the book tables and meet some wonderful novelists, poets, children’s book authors, historians, mystery writers, memoirists, and more. Be sure and check out our facebook page for news about participating authors in the following weeks.
During the event you can shop for lots of Flannery swag at The Childhood Home’s membership table within the square, while also learning more about Savannah’s most famous local author and the city’s only Depression-era house museum in the historic district. Check out their website for info on their regular museum hours and programs throughout the year.
Live music throughout the event will be provided by a cavalcade of singer-songwriters and musicians from some of Savannah's finest local bands.
The parade will start winding around Lafayette Square at 3:30 p.m. Attendees are invited to walk in the parade, bring handmade signs and sing along. Music for the parade will be played by an all-star line up of the Sweet Thunder Strolling Band.
Costumes inspired by Flannery O'Connor characters, settings or the author’s life are optional, but definitely encouraged! The parade is free and open to the public.
