CINEMASAVANNAH: Thelma (US/Switzerland, 2024)

  • Savannah Cultural Arts Center 201 Montgomery Street Savannah, GA, 31401 United States (map)

There is no sweeter, more delightful and feel-good movie coming to you this summer than Thelma. An Audience Award Winner at Sundance earlier this year, Thelma puts a clever spin on familiar action movies by choosing an elderly grandmother as the most unlikely “super” hero. In the first leading film role of her 70-year career, 93-year old June Squibb portrays the strong-willed Thelma, who after getting duped by a phone scammer pretending to be her grandson, sets out on a hilarious and treacherous quest across the city to reclaim what was taken from her. Based on writer/director Josh Margolin’s story of his own grandmother, the film also features Richard Roundtree, Michael McDowell, and Parker Posey. 98% score on Rotten Tomatoes. 97 minutes.

Box office opens at 6. Films start at 7 PM, tix are $10, cash preferred
