The program is a 75-minute experience that provides an overview of what Madeira wine is and its connection with Savannah.
It introduces the unique and flavorful fortified wine while it intertwines with the history of Savannah, as a port city and a center of hospitality. Mid and late 19th century Savannahians Ward McAllister and William Neyle Habersham will be linked to Madeira parties. McAllister, who with Mrs. Astor became the arbiters of NY society said, "In Savannah and Charleston, from 1800 up to the Civil War, afternoon wine parties were the custom."
Tickets $35 per person. Limited to 12 participants. We anticipate selling out. Patrons need to be able to maneuver stairs.
