An Evening of Southern Soul with Cecilia Arango & Trae Gurley, featuring pianist Eric Jones. The music of soul legends, including the pioneer of southern soul itself, Ray Charles, influenced and gave rise to the southern soul music explosion in the 1960s. Known for its gritty and catchy “feel” and “groove”, southern soul became irresistible hitting the airwaves – introducing the transition of musical integration of various genres, including blues, country, and rock n’roll, combined with a heavy gospel influence. Join Cecilia and Trae as they pay tribute to the legendary soul artists who made southern soul a staple in the music industry, including Ray Charles, Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, as well as those artists who have been influenced throughout the years.
